What is the Future for Self-Driving Cars?

People have been imagining it for years. Cars on the street with nobody behind the wheel, creating much more efficient and safe roads compared to what we have today. But what’s the reality? Let’s get into the future for self-driving cars.

They’ll be here sooner than you think.

While it may seem crazy to imagine a bunch of self-driving cars out on the road right now, it’s coming much sooner than many people realize. Several automakers either already have models out on the road or are very close, and tech companies like Google are pushing to develop fully autonomous cars as we speak.

However, most of what we have right now are actually semi-autonomous. Several manufacturers are currently partnering together with Silicon Valley tech firms to develop cars that will function completely without a human. It’s going to take a few years to map out all of the data in cities that is necessary for the cars to function on the streets, but they estimate that we will have these vehicles on the road within the next five to six years.

It’s likely that they will not be fully available to the public at first. Instead, they will be used as rideshare vehicles that will take people around cities like taxis. It isn’t that distant of a future, and it’s an exciting time to be a car lover.
